Title: ABOUT THE INCOMING TIDE
Size: 1220 x 1220 cm
Canvas / Acrylic / Traditional
Painted 1990 first time on canvas always used bark prior to this.
This painting is about the incoming tide from the Dhuwa Moiety, telling us the story how at low tide the birds come to feed, when the oysters are exposed. The oysters are indicated by the looped patterns. The incoming tide indicated by the lined area around the birds and up to the looped patterning.
The two birds called ‘Capudalpudal’ are perched on a great rock called ‘Murwirri’, waiting for the incoming tide which brings with it a plentiful supply of fish from the waters off North East Arnhemland.
The birds calling also tells the Yolgnu people it is time for fishing.
